10/23/08 Sensei Maynard's Birthday
The Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai would like to extend a Happy Birthday to Sensei Maynard. We hope you have a great birthday and a wonderful year.

10/10/08 Brown Belt Dennis 1 Year Anniversary
One year ago today Brown Belt Dennis took on the responsibility to teach. It has been a great learning experience for him. It took him out of his comfort zone and has allowed him to be able to grow even more. He started out with only 4 students who continued training with him when Sensei Maynard retired. The Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai has grown to over 30 people enrolled in the class. He hopes that by next year there are over 60 active people enrolled in class.

10/09/08 Fight Night / Brown Belt Workouts
We have been approved to hold another class on Monday Nights and a Brown Belt Workout on Every 2nd Saturday of the Month. The Monday night class will be fight night and will focus on Kumite techniques. The Monday night classes will be from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. The Brown Belt Workouts will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The Brown Belt Workout is mandatory for all Brown Belts in the Kai.

10/09/08 Bring a Buddy Program Results for September
Corrina Bonham brought the first friend to class by the name of Rhia. Eva brought a friend by the name of Zack who joined our karate program. Emily brought two friends by the name of Patrick and Riley. Emily brought the most new friends for the Month of September and received a gift certificate to McDonnalds.

10/07/2008 Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Open House
The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows will be holding their 2nd Annual Open House on Thursday October 16, 2008 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. We will have a booth there and be doing demos. This will be instead of our regular class on that night. For more information visit thier website here.

09/23/2008 Combined Classes for 09/30/08 & 10/02/08
Brown Belt Dennis will be out of town for the classes held on 09/30/08 and 10/02/08. Lucas will be the instructor for those classes and will only be holding one class for both Junior and Senior studedents each day. The classes will be 5:30pm to 6:30pm Tuesday and Tursday. Part of this trip will include a stay in Dallas, TX to train with Kyoshi Kristensen.

09/16/2008 Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai 3rd Annual Raffle
Today is the beggining of our 3rd annual raffle. Students are going to sell Raffle tickets for an 80GB iPod. For more information see the information posted here.

09/06/2008 Bike Ride
We had a little fun today ridding our bikes together. Lucas Soto, Erick Soto, Emily Przybyla, Courtney Cook, Eva Przybyla and Mercades Rojas all attended the event.

09/02/2008 Courtney Cook earns her yellow belt
Courtney Cook was unable to attend the Shiai on August 16th because of family issues. She received her yellow belt attaining the rank of Hachi Kyu.

09/02/2008 Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai 3rd Annual Raffle
We will begin our 3rd annual raffle on the 16^th of September. The raffle will be done on the 13^th of December after our Shiai.

08/16/2008 Summer Shiai
Today was the day that the students had to show what they had been learning in the last four months. We had 11 students in attendance at this years Summer Shiai. Lucas Soto received his brown belt attaining the rank of San Kyu. Erick Soto received his green belt attaining the rank of Roku Kyu. Kaylee Soto received earned a stripe on her blue belt. Emily Przybyla received her orange belt attaining the rank of Shichi Kyu. Tymon Dozier earned his orange belt attaining the rank of Shichi Kyu. Eva Przybyla received her yellow belt attaining the rank of Hachi Kyu. Corrina Bonham earned her 3rd stripe on her white belt. Ian Lau received 3 stripes on his white belt attaining the rank of Ku Kyu. Ivan Lau received 2 stripes on his white belt attaining the rank of Ku Kyu. Matti Fredell added 1/2 stripe on her white belt. Alejandro Rojas received 1 stripe on his white belt. Afterward all the students and families went to the park to socialize and play games.

07/22/2008 Summer Shiai
The Summer Shiai is comming up on the 16 of August 2008. It will start at 1:00pm and go to 3:00pm. The cost will be $15 per family to help pay for the refreshments.

07/04/2008 Independance Day Party
We had a great time at the Independance Day Party. We had a small workout/demo during the day. We then watched a long fireworks display.

NVIKK attended the 2008 West Coast Karate Classic put on by the Joslins in Roseville California. Dennis Przybyla placed 5th in Kumite and 2nd in Flagging. Lucas Soto placed 5th in kata performing Wansu Kata, 3rd in kumite, and 1st in flagging. Erick Soto placed 4th in kumite. Kaylee Soto placed 5th in kumite performing Seiunchin Kata, 4th in kumite. Emily Przybyla placed 3rd in kata performing Pinon 1&2 together and 2nd in kumite. Tymon Dozier placed 1st in kata performing Pinon 2, and 2nd in kumite. Corrina Bonham placed 2nd in kata performing Pinon 1 and 1st in kumite. Mattie Fredell placed 1st in flagging.

04/15/2008 Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai
It is the one year aniversary for the naming of the Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai.

04/11/2008 - 04/13/2008 2008 Gasshuku "One Heart Way"
Dennis Przybyla, Lucas Soto and Erick Soto all attended the 2008 Gasshuku held by the Texas Isshinryu Karate Kai at Camp Summit in Argyle, Texas. Dennis Przybyla earned a black strip for his brown belt and attaining the rank of Ik Kyu. Lucas Soto earned his purple belt attaining the rank of Yon Kyu. Erick Soto recieved two more black strips on his yellow belt. All the rank advancements where received at the shiai on April 13, 2008.

04/04/2008 Spring Shiai / Skits
We continue to grow and show our dedication to studying martial arts. We had 10 students in attendance at this years Spring Shiai. Kaylee Soto received earned her blue belt attaining the rank of Go Kyu. Emily Przybyla earned one stripe on her yellow belt. Eva Przybyla earned her second stripe on her white belt attaining the rank of Ku Kyu. Tymon Dozier earned his yellow belt attaining the rank of Hachi Kyu. Corrina Bonham earned 2 stripes on her white belt attaining the rank of Ku Kyu. Lucas Soto and Erick Soto will be tested at the Texas Isshinryu Karate Kai Spring Shiai being held April 13th at Camp Summit in Argyle, TX. Matti Fredell and Colin Renfro both attended the shiai and received participation certificates. Afterward all the students participated and shared skits with everyone. Kaylee Soto, Emily Przybyla, Eva Przybyla, Corrina Bonham, and Matti Fredell performed a skit about handling being bullied by gangsters. Lucas Soto, Tymon Dozier, and Edward Anguiano performed a impromptu skit about fighting karate masters. Dennis Przybyla, Erick Soto, and Lucas Soto performed there McDojo skit they are going to perform at the Gasshuku.

There will be no class on April 11th because Dennis Przybyla, Lucas Soto and Erick Soto will be attending the Gasshuku at Camp Summit in Argyle, TX.

NVIKK attended the Martial Arts Expo V put on by the Coolings in Gardnerville today. Dennis Przybyla placed 3rd in kata performing Ku San Ku Kata and places 2nd in kumite. Lucas Soto placed 2nd in Kata performing Chinto Kata and 3rd in Kumite. Erick Soto placed 3rd in kata performing Seisan Kata and 3rd in kumite. Kaylee Soto placed 2nd in kata performing Seiunchin Kata and 3rd in kumite. Emily Przybyla places 5th in kata performing Pinon 1&2 together and 5th in kumite. Eva Przybyla placed 4th performing her basics and 4th in flagging. Matti Fredel placed 5th performing basics and 2nd in flagging. 03/05/2008 Prepare for Spring Shiai
The Spring Shiai is going to be held on April 4, 2008 at 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Each family should bring $10.00 to pay for the food. The students will be a sharing skits with everyone.

03/01/2008 Kyoshi Robert Kristensen was promoted to Hachi(8th)-dan
Kyoshi Robert Kristensen; Dennis Przybyla's teacher, was promoted to Hachi-Dan today by his teacher Hanshi William Duessel. He is one of only 7 Hachi-Dan in the Isshinryu World Karate Association (IWKA). We would like to congratulate Kyoshi from everyone here in the Nevada Isshinryu Karate Kai.

02/22/2008 Movie Night
Movie night was a great success. We had several families come and visit with each other. Unfortunately we didn't get to the movie because we has so much fun talking and goofing off with each other.

We will have a movie night on February 22, 2008. It will be at Brown Belt Dennis Przybyla's house. Your whole family is invited to come to this event. Please sign up to bring some food to the event. As always we will be doing some demos for all who attend.

01/25/2008 Martial Arts Expo V Signups
The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Dept, Sierra Dojo, and High Desert Martial Arts are putting on their Expo again in Gardnerville. If you would like to sign up to attend this event please let Dennis Przybyla know. If you participated in the NVIKK Raffle it will cover the cost of this Expo. You will need a full set of Kumite Gear as well as a Gi to participate in the Expo.

01/04/2008 Winter Shiai / Talent Show
We had a great turnout to the Winter Shiai, with 9 students in attendance. Lucas Soto received a blue belt to match his current rank and also 3 stripes. Erick Soto received one stripe on his yellow belt. Kaylee Soto received two stripes on her green belt. Emily Przybyla earned her yellow belt attaining the rank of Hachi Kyu. Eva Przybyla earned one stripe on her white belt. Matti Fredell earned one stripe on her white belt. Chaldean Cohen earned one stripe on her white belt. Kiana Cohen earned one stripe on her white belt. Tymon Dozier earned one stripe on his white belt. Afterward we had some great talents shared with everyone. Emily Przybyla and Eva Przybyla performed a duet of "When Christmas Comes to Town." Chaldean Cohen danced to the Thriller song. Kiana Cohen sang a solo to everyones delight. Tymon Dozier showed everyone how good he was at the pogo stick. Matti Fredell dazzled everyone with her skills on roller skates.

01/04/2008 New Belt color added
We added a new color belt "Blue" to the list of belts. This was so that we would be more in line with the TIKK set of belts. The white belt will be the ranks of Ju-Kyu and with two stripes will be Ku-Kyu. The Yellow belt will be Hachi-Kyu. We will continue to use orange for the rank of Shichi-kyu. The green belt will be Roku-Kyu. The blue belt will represent the rank of Go-Kyu. The purple with be Yon-Kyu, and brown is associated with San-Kyu, and with one white stripe Ni-Kyu and with one black stripe Ik-Kyu.

The winter shiai is going to be held on January 4, 2008 at 5:30pm to 7:30pm the theme is going to be "Be the best you you can be". It will be a potluck so sign up to bring a dish of some sort. There will also be a Talent Show.

Sensei Maynard, Charlie Sharpentier, Dennis Przybyla and Justin Herzer all attended a Gasshuku held by the Texas Isshinryu Karate Kai at Camp Summit near Dallas, Texas. Justin Herzer received his purple belt at the shiai on April 15, 2007.
